Glasgow Geological Society Balmaha Trail

A journey back in time to explore the geology of Balmaha.

mac iD were approached by the Glasgow Geological Society to produce an eye-catching information map to appeal to both the public and budding geologists.

The map details a short scenic trail along the banks of Loch Lomond which uncovers geological events that took place several hundred million years ago. This is a special place for geologists as it is the best place to study the Highland Boundary Fault, and is where three different parts of the Earth’s crust have come together from different parts of the globe.

We worked with images of rock formations and photography of the breathtaking surroundings to complete the leaflet, which is available in most visitor centres in and around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.
