The Scottish SME Code

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

The Scottish Model ISC_Short_Brochure_v1.pdf

mac iD, Kristina Macaulay, and Fortunetwork CEO, Rod Jamieson, are collaborating in developing a framework to better service and support small-to-medium sized businesses (SMEs) in Scotland to drive business performance forward.  This ‘SME code’ is outlined in a framework entitled ‘The Scottish Model’ which was presented on 9 June 2010 at the
SBCG meeting.

The framework is a response to the Jan 2009 Scottish Economic Recovery Program (NEF), the 5th Scottish National Economics Forum meeting, current proposed cuts, and a GEM 2009 report. The framework provides practical guidance for economic development and internationalisation to include expansion in overseas markets, attracting investment and talent, and creating the ideal location from which to manage global affairs.

A full version of the proposal is available on request. It provides further details on the Internet Smart Card (ISC), and details of the current EU, UN and UK reports, initiatives and policy documents from which it gains a frame of reference.

Copycat 2014 logo should be bespoke for £95k

Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games logo

While there is media outrage at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games logo costing £95k, paid out of the public purse, there is a greater question of ethics and innovation pertaining to the similarity to the Common Guild logo produced by the same design firm.

Glasgow deserves a bespoke logo for its Commonwealth Games which supports the broader vision of Scotland and unites the efforts of all stakeholders.  We believe that innovation sits at the heart of Scotland’s academic and professional centres of excellence. Equally, branding which reflects Glasgow’s efforts should also incorporate innovative ideas.
However - injecting a caveat into the debate - creativity sometimes drives innovation with only subtle changes. Overall, the Commonwealth Games logo is a prime example of a strong and well-rendered brand.
